Who should fill Eubanks’ cheerful shoes? Job requirements include a comprehensive knowledge of pop music, excellent timing when signaling for rimshots, the ability to manage musicians (harder than you think), and a strong identification with “the real America.” Those not easily amused by middlebrow standup or the ritual humiliation of regular folks on street corners are encouraged not to apply.

Eubanks made the announcement during a taping of "The Tonight Show," telling host Jay Leno that he was ready for a change of pace in his career.

Eubanks said, "It's a really difficult decision because this has become my second home, as it has been for the band. I love the audience, and the American people really love the show, and it's been a wonderful experience to be here." Eubanks will remain on the show for another six weeks.
